It comes to this, as far as I can tell.

Lying leads to mediocrity. Lie often enough and you are less then mediocre.

Soon enough,  your lies will only pass the litmus tests the very dumb,  desperate or gullible. Soon after that, you realize you have become one of them, the very dumb or the very desperate.

The Liar’s curse . . . you begin to believe your own lies. Worse, you can’t trust yourself. Worse yet, you loose faith in yourself.

Lying wins you nothing, it is a trade off that corrodes the self.

Honesty is usually the best policy. And you generally can’t cheat an honest person. So err on the side of honesty
